Wallenpaupack is Looking for YOU! - Info Session to be Held Sept. 12, 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians,

School districts across Pennsylvania are experiencing shortages in qualified substitutes. Therefore, the district is reaching out to any parent or community member who might be interested in becoming a substitute teacher, custodian, secretary, school nurse or teacher assistant. Substitute teaching is also an ideal way to supplement your income while setting your own schedule. Training will be provided to interested applicants.

Substitute Teachers

Substitute teacher candidates may hold a Pennsylvania teaching certificate or an out of state certification. In addition, any individual with a four-year degree in any discipline, is qualified to become a Guest Teacher.

Substitute Nurses

Substitute nurses may be licensed as a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic.

Substitute Teacher Assistants

Substitute teacher assistants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be willing to work with both regular and special needs students.

Substitute Secretaries

Substitute secretaries must hold a high school diploma or equivalent and possess basic office skills such as word processing, filing, and the ability to communicate professionally with students, staff, parents, and community members.

Substitute Custodians

Substitute custodians must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be able to perform basic cleaning and maintenance tasks.

Substitute Cafeteria Workers

Substitute cafeteria workers must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be able to prepare and serve meals to staff and students and to create a welcoming cafeteria environment.

Notice Regarding Student Insurance - Revised for 2018-2019 School Year

Please be advised that it is the responsibility of the parents/guardians, in the event of a student accident, to provide for accidental injury expenses either through insurance or cash payment to health care providers. For this reason, the School District would like to make you aware of the availability of a low cost, standard school approved insurance policy.

The School District does not provide insurance coverage for students. If you do not have insurance or the financial ability to cover potential injury expenses, we encourage you to review this Student Accident Insurance document.

If you choose to purchase insurance through this program, please have your child return the completed insurance form with your payment to their school and it will be forwarded to the insurance company to process.

We hope this program can be a valuable service for you and your family.

WASD Staffers Enjoy the Day with Campers at Dyberry Day Camp

On Friday, July 13th, the Wallenpaupack Area School District administrators made their annual visit to the Dyberry Day Camp, treating the campers to a McDonald's lunch of McDoubles, fries and orange punch, followed by ice pops for dessert. The camp and other Arc activities are primarily funded through community solicitation and through the annual Bike Hike (Wayne Highlands) and Color Run (Wallenpaupack), which is a spring event supported by the local schools. All money raised stays in Wayne County and is used for camp staffing, transportation and supplies and for advocacy and special community activities for older challenged persons. Biomedical Health Care Academy Students Visit Geisinger CMC

Wallenpaupack Area Career Coordinator Mrs. Colleen Edwards and North Intermediate Art Teacher, Mrs. Jana Kilduff, once again offered the Biomedical Health Care Academy to high school students. This year as part of the academy the students were given the opportunity to meet with eight Geisinger CMC medical professionals. Mrs. Renee Blakiewicz, Administrative Director of Clinical Operations, worked with Mrs. Edwards to arrange this outstanding opportunity. Mrs. Blakiewicz welcomed the students and provided an overview of the Geisinger facilities. Afterward, members of the panel of medical professionals lead separate tours of the facility.

Students saw all aspects of the hospital from the state of the art surgical suite to the inner workings of all the facilities support systems. Amanda Muehlbauer mentioned that seeing brain and open-heart surgery in action was a once in a lifetime opportunity. In addition, some students witnessed the Geisinger Life Flight process in action as one of Geisinger's helicopters landed and took off from the helipad while students watched the action.

The panelists discussed their position, educational requirements, and their responsibilities at the hospital. Claudia Cheslock commented, "I would love to work at Geisinger CMC where everyone works as a team; it feels like one family."

The Wallenpaupack students and staff would like to thank these Geisinger healthcare professionals for providing us with more than just a glimpse into their remarkable facility. We are grateful for their time, their passion, and their inspiration to our aspiring healthcare professionals.

Vaccination Requirements for 2018-2019 School Year

In the 2018-2019 school year, there are requirements that students in 7th and 12th grade must adhere to. On the First Day of School in the fall of 2018, unless the child has a medical or religious/philosophical exemption, a child must have had the vaccinations as described in this pamphlet, or risk exclusion from school. Students at any grade, Kindergarten through 12th, including all public, private, parochial or nonpublic school in this Commonwealth of Pennsylvania must show proof of immunization before they can attend school. This pertains to vocational schools, alternative education programs, intermediate units, special education, home education programs, charter and cyber charter schools.
