Support Groups
The Student Assistance Team at North Primary School offers the following support groups on an as needed basis throughout the school year. Groups generally meet during one period a week for approximately six weeks. Additional groups may be offered depending on the need.
Banana Splits
Banana Splits provides a safe and confidential setting for students, to assist those students who are experiencing adjustment difficulties associated with the separation or divorce of their parents. "Banana Splits" activities and discussions will focus on helping the children feel more comfortable in expressing their feelings and coping with them.
Friendship Group
This support group strives to help students improve their self-esteem and develop positive peer relationships. Goals include identifying personal strengths and interests, increasing self-confidence and helping the students learn appropriate ways of resolving conflict.
Stop & Think
Goals of this group are to help the students improve their listening skills and to practice following directions. Some activities also focus on conflict resolution and self-control.
Anger Management
Designed for students who have difficulty expressing their feelings in an appropriate way. Activities focus on teaching students to recognize signs of anger and helps them develop better coping strategies. Impulse control, problem solving and self-esteem are also stressed.
