District-Wide Lockdown Drill Scheduled for November 2, 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians:
Please read this important letter from Assistant Superintendent Gunuskey regarding the district-wide Lockdown Drill scheduled for November 2nd.

Job Shadowing at Wallenpaupack Schools

Wallenpaupack Area School District Career Coordinator Mrs. Colleen Edwards recently arranged for seniors Anastasia League, Kiarra McCloud, and Hailey McMillin to shadow three veteran Wallenpaupack teachers: Mrs. Denise Brice, Mrs. Danielle Crouthamel, and Mrs. Mary Schmalzle.

Anastasia League observed Mrs. Brice teaching math to third graders. Anastasia commented, "I learned that maintaining student's attention can be very difficult, and each student has a different learning pace. It did bring me joy to see the positive interaction between the teacher and students and helped me realize that teachers not only help students build on their skills, but also impact their lives."

Additionally, Kiarra McCloud helped Mrs. Crouthamel's kindergarten class as they colored, read, and made pom-poms for the pep rally. Kiarra remarked, "Mrs. Crouthamel utilized many ways to help the children be engaged and interested, especially through song. I noticed that Mrs. Crouthamel always remained positive with the children. This experience made it clear that I want to be a kindergarten teacher."

Lastly, Hailey McMillin worked with Mrs. Schmalzle's second grade classroom who were learning about poems. Mrs. Schmalazle read a story about Hurricane Katrina. Afterward, the students read silently. Hailey stated, "Mrs. Schmalzle was amazing. Watching her work with all of the students, I understood that she knew each one's ability and what they needed for each activity. Mrs. Schmalzle practiced breathing exercises to calm students down and modeled reading during snack time. It was a wonderful experience and helped confirm my commitment to becoming a teacher."
